Product Description

ADDIGUP® S is an additive based on GUP® few-layers graphene specifically designed to provide superior physical properties to solvent borne paints and coatings while retaining mechanical properties, minimally impacting the rheological properties of the host material and without a significant increase in viscosity.

ENHANCED DURABILITY WITH ADDIGUP® AS

SOLVENTBORNe EPOXY coating – ADDIGUP® AS

Test: Taber abrasion test

Adding a concentration of ADDIGUP® AS of 8 wt% the abrasion resistance of the coating increases of 60%

ANTI-CORROSION TEST WITH ADDIGUP® AS

SOLVENT-BORNE two component epoxy formulation – ADDIGUP® AS

Test: immersion test (ISO 2812-2) & neutral salt spray test (ISO 9227)

ADDIGUP® AS was subjected to extensive industry-standard tests during development, including the ASTM-prescribed salt fog test. Excellent results recently achieved by more clients.

Particular interesting are the results from a client from Bavaria with ADDIGUP® AS. The coatings evaluated by the client, with and without ADDIGUP® AS, were applied on R4 steel grade panels of 100×75 mm2.

Immersion tests (ISO 2812-2 ) were performed to evaluate the resistance of the coatings to water immersion. The coatings with ADDIGUP® AS passed 3000 hours of immersions, achieving the Im2 (high) category whereas the coating without graphene not reached the 2000 hours.

The coatings were also exposed to neutral salt spray conditions to evaluate the resistance to a saline corrosive environment (ISO 9227). The failure of the coating without graphene, considering the high amount of ferric corrosion and the presence of a blister in the coating and the corrosion exceeding 1 mm from the scratch on the scribed samples, was estimated at 783 hours. On the other hand, the coating using ADDIGUP® AS, with a concentration of graphene of 0.35 wt% overcame the 2860 h of exposure to salt spray, showing no ferric corrosion coming from the steel substrates, and proving an effective protection in such an aggressive atmosphere.

Thus, the graphene-based coating was classified as belonging to the C5-M (high) category (ISO 12944-6).

PROCESSING GUIDELINES & ADDITION RATE

ADDIGUP® AS is added to the host material to be processed. The recommended loading rate of ADDIGUP® AS is in the range 3-10 wt% calculated on the weight of the host material. The optimum dosage level should be determined with specific test based on the required performance, host matrix characteristics, processing conditions and presence of other fillers. The above recommended levels can be used for orientation. Optimal levels are determined through a series of laboratory tests.

ADDIGUP® AS is used in all formulations that require high thermal dissipation and superior corrosion protection on high tech applications with extensive warranties. The best results are achieved for systems with DFT > 50 mm. Can be use in a wide variety of resin systems. Combinations with other active anti-corrosive pigments is possible and may be advantageous in specific cases maximizing the potential creating a synergistic effect with graphene. For example, due to its high electrical conductivity GUP® creates a synergistic effect with zinc (in the formulation where is present), improving its cathodic safeguarding behavior. ADDIGUP® AS can require adjustment of the existing formulation.
