Asphalt

Few-layer graphene GUP® reduces the aging of asphalt and enhances the mechanical and physical properties

Asphalt, a pavement material, will be aged by many factors, such as heat, light, and oxygen during the high-temperature production and natural environment during service. Aging makes the asphalt binder become harder, leads to early damage, and reduces the service life span of the pavement. Therefore, to prolong the service life span of an asphalt pavement, it is important to improve the anti-aging performance of the asphalt. After aging, the asphalt molecular weight will be increased or associated irreversibly to form macromolecules by absorbing oxygen, the asphalt colloid structure will, therefore, be changed, decreasing the asphalt pavement performance.

Examples of Applications

Asphalt with enhanced durability (fatigue crack protection, rutting resistance, high resistance to temperature variations)

Enhanced asphalt roofing

Enhanced asphalt sealers

Anti corrosion and better durability in pavements (effective barrier to moisture and road salts)

Graphene based sensors embedded in a road to constantly monitor and report the pavement’s changing condition
